AI missile detection system gives false data during heightened conflict and a human decides to push the big red button before getting proper verification. Doesn’t have to be AI launching nukes it could be our tools to know when to launch nukes hallucinate and humans make a snap decision
I think you underestimate how many people use facebook to organize events and messenger to communicate. For sure people would adapt but saying it can disappear and nobody would notice isn’t accurate, it would very much disrupt some communities
There will be no safety if they convince us to hide again. Pride exists because people fought, bled, were arrested, and sometimes died. In my opinion, people being unwilling to be in danger over what they believe in is being taken advantage of and we need to show them we will bite if cornered
Edit to add I know not everyone is in a position to do so and I don’t want to discount that. Families, people at high risk, or whatnot, I’m not saying they should all be jumping in front of a van. Maybe issuing warnings over phones or even word of mouth itlls spread quickly, and let people on the ground decide if they’re still willing to take part and in what ways

I feel like this is reason to continue the events not call them off. Change the tone to somber or angry but stopping things plays into their hand of inciting fear. We go to pride to show people we aren’t afraid, we’re willing to be visible, and that if they threaten us they have to deal with an entire community. I’ve never considered it to just be a fun party and I’ve always assumed something dangerous might happen. I’d be out there twice as hard today

On a more serious note I think not only will this happen at some point, there is no way to avoid it. Either capitalism continues unchecked until we wipe ourselves out, or we fight to replace it. Even if we do keep capitalism and somehow don’t wipe ourselves out it naturally creates a cycle of societal abuse so these bubbles and depressions will continue
I think of hill climbing algorithms a lot. Basically you look in your immediate vicinity and if you see something better you go that way, and you keep doing that until every direction you look is down meaning you’ve reached the top of your hill. The problem is you can’t necessarily tell if you’re at the highest peak or not just that you’re at a peak. To get out of that local peak and to something better you have to go downhill. Most systems that seek incremental improvements have this problem. I think we did the peak capitalism already and it is time to go downhill in search of a better peak. “It gets worse before it gets better”
In my opinion, the best we can do at this point is prepare for the global shitshow as best we can. Build community, move away from capitalism and the US, then try and stay course toward something better while it is going to shit around us. It would be great if we could prepare enough to prevent as much suffering as possible but we’ve gotten backed into a corner and are on a very serious timer before the planet is broken for good; so I don’t know what the balance is between preparing and ripping off the bandaid
As a game dev, that sounds so complicated to implement. Showing numbers for what is currently happening sure, predicting what will happen and graphs and whatnot? I hope I’m not the one doing that

When I bought a small office laser printer for making stickers it took me four years before I needed to change the cartridges. It only came with those partially full ones too. Unless you’re printing dozens of full color sheets a day the cost of cartridges is likely a minimal consoderation
Maybe it’s because I’m more used to windows but my experience any time I’ve had to use mac at work is I’d rather just be fired. At least with a bit of work you can set windows up to mostly fuck off but I’ve never figured out how to do that with mac so it aggressively gets in my way when coding and doing qa
Me which is why I bought one, and several of the people who have seen me work with mine now want one for these reasons too. If my screen (or any component) craps out it is super easy to replace with minimal e-waste. Once I’m out of school and into the workforce I’m going to buy one of the GPUs probably a used one further reducing e-waste. If I want more storage space it takes like 5 minutes to swap a drive out. Love the thing

I love this example. It’s one of the things a new user doesn’t even need to know what a terminal is; just that it exists and you can copy paste stuff into it
imo it’s more accurate to call it polarizing and get you blacklisted by the types of people you maybe don’t want using your code anyways. Personally anyone doing this I’m going to be more likely to use their code
More people dumping usd means lower demand for it, potentially lowers it’s value. I know it’s more complicated than that and my contribution is basically pennies but I’m hoping it helps a bit
I’m leaving the US and one of the first things I did was convert all my USD to local currency. I’m doing my best to actively extract from the US and bring it elsewhere, to hell with my home country
