I was not aware of this until you brought it up. How do you personally host it. I have a group of friends I would like to get one setup for; but I don’t open up my network to the outside world (with exception of VPN for my personal use.)
How you liking it so far?
That all sounds pretty cooll! Some of that is outside the scope of what I would need; but would still say quite a cool setup.
For anything custom on my setup I have repos on my git server that is easily pulled down when I decide to nuke my systems and start fresh. Which doesn’t happen for years at a time.
And even then on my main rig, I have all of my data separated to other disks. And backed up to my NAS if I deem it critical.
That’s part of the beauty of Linux; power of option. Don’t like the way something is done; do it another way. Don’t like the tool, find a new tool.
While I think NixOS is quite cool, absolutely no hate here, I find it isn’t the right tool for me.
For my NAS, I only have it mounted to devices that are on network. For my laptop, I have other ways of accessing it. Mainly from my laptop, I have no need for the NAS as the NAS is primarily used by other services hosted on network, and from there I can access the web front end for much of it. So with a simple VPN connection I can access everything.
If rocking KDE with Arch, use KDE Partition Manager to manage mount points. I mean, I still edit my fstab. And it’s super easy to do anyways.
As an Arch user for multiple years, I did pick up NixOS on a spre machine to toy around with for the learning experience; I can say, I do not like that design choice to be fully config based. It was more pain for initial setup. And for my usecase where I am constantly making changes, it didn’t make sense for me to use.
I am right there with you. I am not pro-AI either. For non critical projects, I am less against it than for something like core systems, kernel, and such. It is great for log analysis. Taking tons of data and reporting back information I would rather not skim through line by line.
That and like you said, let’s take ethical and environmental concerns out for this. Because those are a whole other issue.
I think if it is used like a tool, and we can get it’s environmental impact under control it can be great used like the tool it is.
Albeit hesitant due to AI use; I may investigate using this.
While I will never support Microsoft through this or Windows; I see the value in this for getting others to switch to Linux. This is one less excuse to continue using Windows.
If they were to sell it with that name officially, Nintendo would likely complain. But its just a fun name from the community, so no harm no foul. Though I can see your perspective on this.
They aren’t without controversy. Toxic workplace allegations, false/inaccurate hardware reviews, and I’m sure there are more controversies I am sure. Linus also seems a little bit Dickish too.

It is very click-baitybas many others have said. I can’t expect them to be the most knowledgeable on everything (or anything…) But watching their Linux videos they’ve been releasing have been nothing shy of facepalm after facepalm. Sure, there are a few useful nuggets of info in there but I wouldn’t take anything they say aa gospel.
Its for entertainment purposes and not for in-depth information.
I can get behind them exposing Linux to new users through their channel. But they could do it better.
For anything that loads slower for me, I just use Vanadium. But as someone that has issue with Chromium browsers; it’s a last resort. Though, I might check out Fennec as a secondary.

Currently I have one Docker host. I want to split my containers across 2 hosts. Both just small form factor PCs. (Lenovo, forget the exact model. But each have 16gb of DDR4 and an i5. One is 8th gen, and the other I have to double check. The one I haven’t setup yet has an Nvidia card of sorts. I want to offload media services onto that one.)

Can’t speak on the second half of this; but GrapheneOS in light of this have outlined their security in a post to the community. I would argue their education of their user base is there.
I use a Motu M4 audio interface with headphones wired to it, as well as a Shure mic. Since I do music I already had it setup.
Just set this up myself. Its quite nice

I self host a lot of different services for myself that’s all accessible via VPN. Everything is behind Caddy, and has an SSL cert, but only accessible on my network or via VPN.
I may investigate a VPS for running Sharkord for friends as I don’t want to expose my network more to the outside world. But this sounds rather easy, so thank you!
