I dunno, English is pretty good at stealing bits of other languages.

Go in early Aug if possible. The Tachineputa festival in Aomori is the best in all of Tohoku. Kanto festival in Akita is up there as well.

What did you think it meant?

Go north. Hardly anyone goes to Tohoku and there’s so much to see

Assuming this AI shit doesn’t kill us all and we make it to the conclusion that robots writing lies on websites perhaps isn’t the best thing for the internet, there’s gonna be a giant hole of like 10 years where you just shouldn’t trust anything written online. Someone’s gonna make a bespoke search engine that automatically excludes searching for anything from 2023 to 2035.

I never knew they used the “suffering work” kanji for that phrase

Perfect, time for the nobel!

Does that mean a bloated orange with alzheimers somehow failed to achieve something again?

Yeah I’m still bouncing between apps bc none of them have all of what I want (mostly to do with swipe gestures plus picture and video functionality–basically trying to replace sync but nothing lives up to it). But at least the new user icon shows up on desktop these days.

Is that an app? I’ve been hoping someone makes a desktop client that improves the lemmy experience like the reddit ones used to do
They tried pay toilets in the states but people vandalized the shit out of them until they were gone. These days it can be hard to find public restrooms in places though.

I got one of those hats they were selling for the rally that said hate with the “E” xed out. It was my hat hat and I’m still upset I lost it.

I don’t necessarily think that would be the wrong thing to do in that situation, but wouldn’t it most likely end up with your death and your wife dragged off somewhere with no one left who knows she’s even gone?
I’m all for shooting masked thugs and I don’t have a good answer here, I just think there are no good outcomes

It might be less common in the UK (eg I know you guys still keep the lay/lie distinction commonly but it’s pretty muddled in the US these days), but you can find usage notes in US-based dictionaries:
the past and past participle hung, as well as hanged, is standard. Hanged is most appropriate for official executions
he was to be hanged, cut down whilst still alive … and his bowels torn out
—Louis Allen
but hung is also used.
gave orders that she should be hung
—Peter Quennell
Hung is more appropriate for less formal hangings.
by morning I’ll be hung in effigy
—Ronald Reagan

Hung also works; a lot of people stopped making the distinction, going back decades

I dunno about recent youtubers but here’s a comedy sketch from the 90s

This guy is also famous

There was a recent video I saw explaining some Japanese memes (like how a guy ranting on a train got turned into a game) but I can’t find it rn–I’ll check again later

I’m astounded that in a gathering of fascists two people holding English and Irish flags can stand in the same vicinity of each other and not start throwing punches.

Happens with Japanese companies too, like Nikon. Also words that end in eh sound become ee, like karate and karaoke and sake.
I usually use ddg but sometimes it can’t find things in non-English languages whereas google has the results I’m looking for.
