Mod for Starfield that significantly improves performance, uses a combination of engine tweaks, compressed texture assets, and more.
Reportably gives pretty good 40fps results in non-demanding areas, and helps hit 30fps in demanding areas.
Unfortunately due to replacing many assets, the mod file size is huge (~7GB), but the author is preparing the download to be available through other file hosting services for people who don't have Nexus mod premium for the faster download speed.
Edit: SteamDeckHQ made an article covering the mod and it's improvements. Their findings were:
Compared to the stock version of the game, there have been some fantastic gains. With this version of the mod, I saw no drops below 30 FPS and some spots gaining about 5-8 FPS improvements overall. Without any TDP limits, it seems a stable 30 is finally possible with this mod, and I couldn't be happier.
your shitting me. I can play starfeild on the deck? How?! Those system requirements were not small.
Compared to other recent releases they kind of were. Also the decks screen resolution and refresh rate is adequate for its performance.
One reason may Bethesda deciding not to implement Denuvo. On the other hand, they sure will rely on the community fixing the rest of the mess lol, although the first gameplay videos make the game look surprisingly polished imo.
I’m considering buying Starfirld after I finish Baldurs Gate 3, for the sole reason of Bethesda not implementing denuvo, if they had done it 10/10 would have pirated it.
They’ve been relying on community patches since Morrowind dropped 20 years ago.
that was pretty fast
Alright, I was probably going to play it anyway even with dips down to the low 20s. But if we’re not even at the full release yet and the modding scene is already squeezing more out of that bottom 1%, I’m just biting the bullet and buying the damned game.
For anyone in the same boat, Fanatical is selling the pre-release versions of the game for 17% off, packaged with a random “highly rated” Steam game. My freebie was Reventure, which is regularly $8.99 CAD.
Reventure is an absolute joy to play through, I highly recommend you try it out when you get a chance.
It’s very likely to become my most recent “doesn’t need all my attention” game, as I always need one of those on deck (if you’ll pardon the expression).
I know exactly what you mean, a lot of JRPGs are that for me
Mods that actually support Linux natively is cool to see
The Steam Deck is going to make Linux a more mainstream option for modders
incredible that the modding community can make something like this within a week of launch and yet bethesda couldn’t make it in 7 years
I was expecting to have to see if I could tolerate streaming, but I’ll definitely have to give the default and this a try before resorting to that.
Been using this mod. It’s scaled down textures and a few ini tweaks - appears to be with draw distance and lod. Seems to work well enough until patches come out.
