President Donald Trump says he's imposing a 100% tariff on computer chips— a move that raises the specter of higher prices for electronics, autos, household appliances and other essential goods that depend on the processors.
mmm? has aged fine. no one said manufacturing would come back over night. dont take me for a trumpy. fucker is insane. but tarriffs are not the inherently bad thing the finance bros try to tell you they are. if they were you wouldnt see companies trying to get laws in place that protect them from competition. the fact is they are effective at driving economic change.
The last time trump went nutty on tarrifs and we had supply chain issues has lead to durable changes in how companies have structured their supply chains. Unfortunately for the companies they missed the underlying trend both trump and biden went for (bringing manufacturing back to the states)
The problem we have is that liberals (both rep and dem) have systematically fucked over the middle class for 4 decades so now the know how has to be retrained and the capitalists bitch and moan. You dont fix 4 decades of outsourcing in a couple months it takes years.
how tariffs are being implemented is absolutely retarded (aka: no actual coherence or thought put into them).
edit: if you’re referring to the jobs numbers released recently. that was happening well before trumpette took office. He just pushed it into over drive. because hes a moron and doesnt know how systems behave.
Ah i hadnt seen that. it aged perfectly fine in that context. they’re doing everything they can to avoid it. which was exactly my point. the fact trump is corrupt as fuck is immaterial to the original statement. they absolutely would if they had no other choices. sadly they have taco boy who is more than happy to be given money for favors.
wasnt just a golden toy for the man child (not that I expect apple to deliver on the 600billion promise). As I told people back in august when it was clear the democrats were going to lose again by not supporting the working class: trump was going to give the democrats a master class in the exercising of executive power, used in ways decent people find abhorrent.
Man, that’s one of the clearest example of backfire efect I ever saw. I litteraly sad that they wouldnt have to do anything as long as they bend the knee and publicly kiss the ring. That’s exactly what happend. And in your mind you manege to spin it into “exactly my point!”. I bet you think you’re unusualy rational person capable of changing their mind in the presence of evidence… “If only everyone else would listen to reason!”, right?
I’m not even mad, it’s acctualy an awesome case study. But I’ll stop right here. I don’t belive it will be productive.
or maybe you’re just dense and dont see we’re on the same page? funny how you miss that option in your eagerness to try and prove something to someone. This was exactly my point. sorry you missed it.
What exactly do you think I need to change my mind about?
that trump is a fascist? we agree.
that companies will bend knee in order to avoid tariffs? on that we agree again!
that companies absolutely would bring manufacturing back to the US due to tariffs? again, you seem to be missing the very clear evidence they would to the tune of 600 billion.
so what exactly do you want me to change my mind on? that jobs may not come back because trump is a fascist twat? okay here we are, never said that wasnt a possibility.
and they would. thats literally what the 600 billion is for silly. now whether trump actually follows through and makes sure they do is a separate and is more related to trump than the behavior of these companies. Given the choice between ‘bring manufacturing back’ or ‘become entirely blocked the within the us market’ they’ll pick the former. every. time.
so what evidence am I suppose to consider that would change my mind or contradicts my original post? or even more related to you: contradicts your position in any way? because thats what this is about. you want to be told you are correct.
so sure, you’re absolutely correct that trump will not require them to follow through. but that doesnt change the facts that my original position is also correct. Funny how two things can be correct at the same time.

I’m referring to exempt in exchange for a shiny token of subordination: https://piefed.social/post/1134311

Reminder: Your point was “they will swith to 4x more expensive domestic productions to avoid 5x more expensive tariffs”
