Of course apps could just detect common screenshot shortcuts by listening to the current button state, but I don’t think they had any way of detecting a screenshot called from either the launcher or the quick actions.
I don’t have a problem with this feature, especially as the user gets notified what apps track this info, but it doesn’t have anything to do with apps spying on you.
The API exists to standardise screenshot detection, not for user privacy per se.
