It’s insanely stupid that they skipped 14. Insanely.
Also, I have the 13 and it’s pretty trash. I can’t use the home button after the last update with nova launcher. It also has a lot of other issues that all add up.
My only complaint about my 13 is that the screen has not been as durable as my previous phones. I have several spots where the thin film on its surface has pitted. Maybe my case sucks, but I have never had this problem on any previous phone. My home button is fine, so I am wondering why yours is broken. Maybe I didn’t get the same update you did?

I know this is during benchmarks and the average consumer would not get anywhere near this, but still… 130°F (54,44°C)?!? I think 113°F (45°C) is already a little too warm to be comfortable…
They’re definitely going to nerf performance in a future update. Probably won’t affect your typical bursty tasks but resource-intensive gaming and long video processing tasks will take a hit.
I’m convinced that battery life is intentionally nerfed to one day on every single smartphone. Because every single year manufacturers come out with this same bullshit “don’t worry, this year’s model will get you that multi-day battery life you want without compromise!”
It’s just a carrot on a stick to get people to buy the newest device.
If would be vastly improved if your phone had similar components without power hungry soc.
This year you are getting an even powerful chip, a 165hz even brighter display and some things.
The 8 Elite gen 5 can use 20W at peak power. Last year’s 8 Elite peak was 16-17W. 8 gen 3 was limited to 11W.
Tell me, how do you expect to get more battery life while using more power and doing more tasks at once? If you limited performance you can easily get away with more battery. But, manufacturers don’t and want to push further and further. Multi day battery is possible. But, you need to limit certain things to get that. Can’t game or do processor intensive tasks all day and expect multi day battery. Fortunately, the large battery cell and fast charging should make it a non-issue for most people.

I mean it should be common place now just to get a new battery put in. My city pays for half the repairs upto 200 euro now, to not need to throw out devices.
Plus everybody uses a case now days anyway, so you don’t even see the chasis gaps if the repair was a little less than perfect.
As an iPhone guy (for the last 9 years; I used Android for 6 years before that, and I’ve done root, custom firmware, all that good stuff), this is the Android phone I’m looking at, like, if I had to get a new phone right now. For iPhone, I’m looking at the base 17 because the Air is dumb and, with ProMotion (1-120Hz variable) in the base, I think it’s the best value/performance ratio iPhone, and they all start at 256GB, which is awesome. I’d prefer 512GB (what I’ve got) but I could live with 256GB. For Android, I looked at Pixel 10, but the iPhone 11 level of performance and the AI hallucinating camera put me off what looks to be an otherwise solid phone. Otherwise, I’d just default to Galaxy S25, seems like an easy winner. But if I’m already going to Galaxy for cameras (IMO, iPhone/Pixel depending on what you need > Galaxy > others), I might as well accept the lower performing cameras on 1+15 and take the winning battery life and scratch-proof chassis. And I’ll never push the thermals that far as I don’t care about mobile gaming (except maybe some RetroArch).
The O-Connect software is what’s doing it for me. PC-Tablet-Watch continuity are exactly what I want from my phone, and this is the first manufacturer to get that right. Samsung’s continuity software is semi-locked to their terrible Galaxy Book laptops. I’m very curious to try O-connect out on Linux and MacOS. Unfortunately, Apple just nailed the high-power notebook segment, so I have to keep my M3 Max around until something else beats it in battery and power rankings.
I’m curious about this. I have an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and AirPods. I plan on keeping my iPhone when I upgrade my Android phone next (which is five years older; it’s a Galaxy S10) so continuity with Android stuff is something I’m curious about. I know the watches are better on the Android side. Maybe not so much for fitness? I feel like Apple Health is a winner, and unfortunately most of Apple’s focus on the Watch. Whereas with Android watches there’s more focus on media. That’s what I’m curious about. I’m not gonna replace my iPhone, but I will replace my S10. I’m not planning on replacing my AirPods, but the Watch is a possibility. Definitely sticking with MacBook but I could go either way — Mac, or a PC running Linux — on the desktop.
