There is a movie with Margo Robbie called Terminal. The reason I know this is because if you type “terminal” into the Start Menu of a fresh copy of Windows 11, it’s the first result.

I typed in “o” or “oz” in the win11 start menu to search for an app. Instead, the menu gave me internet results, with the first one being “ozempic”… This was on my work machine, lol.

This behavior by the OS was exactly what finally made me permanently switch to Linux a few years back. (I understand that’s generally not an option on a work machine.)

          edit: Correct typo.

Not even surprised. You will probably get snippets from bing there in the future, taking up most of the space, along with an ad, and your programs are tiny pixels at the bottom you cant even see.

One day we’ll have AI agents who will borrow your bank details, buy and download a digital copy for you, then play it it the start menu… All in a split second.

Unless you pay a daily subscription fee to prevent it.

I dont know how people tolerate it. I find it a bit much getting my own file contents picked up by GNOME.

Edit: I’m sorry, I didn’t see the terminal window because I’m just now having coffee. The joke is better than my morning confusion. My regret is as full as the security line at the airport.

It was based on a true story of statelessness. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehran_Karimi_Nasseri

The real story is much less clear cut and filled with mental health issues.

Guy is in an airport when his country goes through a coup and changes names. So his passport is no longer recognized. Can’t leave thr airport, cant call the embassy for help because everyone there was part of the old government. Stuck in a way no one had ever thought of before.

IRL guy was expelled from Iran and his papers that let him live in Europe were “stolen.”

Isn’t that customizable anyways? Furthermore, do these symbols actually have a bigger meaning? I.e., why does zsh use % instead of $ per default?

Probably, I was always taught that the # was just a reminder you were logged in as root, and I’m a Bash boy, I don’t know diddly squat about zsh.

Ha, nice. I had just been digitizing my physical media lately, and I found this DVD. I thought “It’s been 20 years, surely someone has made this joke before, but what the hell”

It was probably the most inexplicable addition to the Matrix franchise. Like, we get it, you’re stuckin a terminal, a place of transition, yada yada… Just break the egg and get on with it.
