The new UI design is also not universally loved, there was definitely a lot of anger towards it when it first released for being too “iOS-like” or otherwise changing familiar UI constructs like the statusbar too drastically.

I use the stock OS on a Pixel phone but have LineageOS on a tablet, so I think I’ll prefer having the same UX across both devices, but tbh it’s not that big a deal.
