Our devices are shoving convenience in our faces every opportunity they get.

“Give us all your data and depend on our products for the rest of your life but boy will it be convenient!”

In face of that pretty much everything else is inconvenient, esp. interacting with humans.

LLM-assisted coding puts that on overdrive. Countless times have I heard in the past year or so “well who has the time to code by hand?”. Sure, people have always been complaining, esp. unpaid FOSS coders, but never as an argument against doing the thing itself.

It’s like giving people the choice between a bun + cucumber + beef patty, or an already packaged McDonalds hamburger. “Well who still has the time to make their own sandwiches”.

I hope hand-coded will become a selling point at some point but considering most people don’t care about what is going on under the surface of their devices at all…

  • From a purely aesthetical pov alone I’d say yes. AI always tries to produce things along normalized rules of beauty, text structure, etc.

But even if you discount all such things as opinion-based, I keep coming back to its political, social and environmental impact, since most of it does come from fascist USA, runs on its datacenters.

(and incidentally, searching for an article that breaks down such impact for, say, one vibe-coded app, proved to be impossible - all search results are about the hidden cost your company pays after publishing 😡)

  • The author is sympathetic to cyclists

Toronto advocates are putting their bodies on the line to protect a bike lane the province wants to rip out — and and to fight a wave of anti-bike lane sentiment that this writer warns is sweeping the whole continent.

The decision to remove the bike lanes comes from the Province of Ontario despite opposition from the City of Toronto. Ontario Premier Doug Ford is continuing his late brother Rob’s anti-bicycle campaign and is overstepping local leaders to spend millions to tear out a set of bike lanes already installed and prevent new bike lanes from being created.

but still, fuck that headline. Does everything have to be click- and preferably ragebait? Yes, the answer is yes.

  • Depends a lot on the proofreading the scientists did before “deploying” it:

Radical Numerics’ research is really more like a blog post — not only was the study self-published, rather than being vetted by a scientific journal, but it hasn’t even been peer reviewed. Making matters even murkier, the company declined to share clinical information about the patient or the doctors involved with the NYT, citing the proprietary nature of a treatment it hopes to monetize.

Say no more. Is Elizabeth Holmes out of prison now?

  • For a moment I was hoping it had finally happened 😐

    Don’t click. It’s bait.

    The whole article:

Unconfirmed reports circulating from some sources across the country have sparked speculation about a developing situation involving the White House, with attention now turning to US President Donald Trump for a possible statement.

However, the details surrounding the reports remain unclear, and no verified information has been provided to establish exactly what may have happened.

President Donald Trump is expected to be a key focus as people await further clarification. For now, readers are urged to treat the circulating claims with caution until credible sources or an official statement provide confirmation.

We will continue monitoring the situation and update this report as soon as reliable information becomes available.

    More to Follow…

There’s literally nothing here; otoh it’s a good lesson in meaningless phrases in journalism.

The headline has more detail than the article. It seems to have been randomly plucked from a list of very clickbaity headlines.

Also what sort of username is this. Unless they’re literally posting news from Niger.
