  • Just because you don’t find yourself needing a given port doesn’t mean no one should have one.

My USB c port broke from being cycled too many times with a stupid headphone dongle, and now I can’t charge it with a cable OR use my god damn headphones. I like my headphones, its obnoxious that I can’t just plug them into the device I want to listen to. I get it’s not relevant to you but it is relevant to many other people which is why so many people are still bitching about it years after almost every manufacturer has removed the port. Every single day its frustrating I don’t have one. Its frustrating when my friends want to play music in my car and they don’t have one.

I got my headphones for Christmas and I LOVE THEM, but I can’t even use them with my phone :(

  • As in your girlfriend introducing you to guns?

And absolutely, first aid is essential. If you’re gonna play with things that can injure or kill things in the blink of an eye, you ought to learn how to handle that. I sometimes joke that the kink community puts so much emphasis on consent, negotiating kink interactions, aftercare, etc, because if you’re gonna choose to play with fire you ought to learn how to use a fire extinguisher.

No one thinks it’ll succeed? Obviously you and I exist in very different parts of the linux sphere, cause I’m pretty sure X11 is all but dead as a project and its kinda just a question of how long it takes for Wayland to be feature complete enough to reach a critical mass of adoption. And its kinda feeling like we’re currently on the cusp of being there with the major DEs moving towards discontinuing X11 support 😅

  • As a largely non-technical linux enjoyer I have such a hard time understanding why people hate systemd so much. If I switched to a distro that uses another init system would my experience be better?

Like I get that the complaint is partially the philosophy, but it sounds like you also have problems with it in practice and I just can’t really relate to that. I dunno, maybe I just wouldn’t notice if there are problems happening with how my init system is working 🤷

  • Even if you aren’t necessarily looking for a Foss/private stuff I think folks should know not to use evernote by now. It’s been an ever-worsening garbage heap for a long time. When I was in highschool I used it a LOT for a while, and pretty quickly shitty changes started to become commonplace, and it’s been exclusively downhill from there.

If you’re still using it, its worth looking through the huge number of competitors for something else; you have no shortage of alternative options at this point
