I am one of the people that believe in the technical superiority of rust.

What differentiates me though, is that I also believe in the superiority of C, the superiority of Java, of Javascript, ALL WITHIN THEIR RELATIVE DOMAINS HAVE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES.

I like my crypto libraries in C. I like my desktop applications in rust and I like my web pages with simple, hand-written javascript. Or none is fine too.

I think it’s an acceptable choice to use rust for core utilities, though not necessarily exclusively, but I think we’re a far way off, where we should widely adopt it. It’s not very mature yet.

With the others I agree, but Polestar does not make good cars. They’re literally, measurably, the fastest cars to break down.

Then you want to create a future that does not serve you. If my family tries to sell me dishsoap, I will stop them. If someone wants to push AI ads, I will block them. There is no known mechanism they have to force me to watch ads.

Well, I’m not saying your shouldn’t use another android distribution. Neither are other GrapheneOS users, those who aren’t in a cult at least, which ironically the users are sometimes but the devs not really.

I think where the confusion lies, is that GrapheneOS is simply the strongest positioned and best phone OS for what it is trying to achieve. If you want a phone that nobody can crack into, that gives you the highest level of privacy possible, you will choose GrapheneOS.
But that’s for the same kind of people that would run an 8 year old laptop with Coreboot and QubesOS. Not everybody wants that kind of control.

For people that did not require the best, DivestOS was a good choice, since they did a lot of the things GrapheneOS did and more, where I’m making the case that neither was really better for their use case than the other, since DivestOS had the goal of broader device support.

All in all, I think GrapheneOS gets a bad rep. There is a reason why state officials use it. Why It’s the most praised in the security business. They can’t just adjust to your needs, that’s not what their project is for. It’s for the absolute best in security and privacy. You can just get another distro so stop being do mad.

And obviously, when they can not continue on Pixel phones, they will choose another.
