Rejected? My dude, there’s no rejections, just the dead silence of being ignored.

Technology@lemmy.world•Meta's latest legal wheeze is to insist that pirating books is fair use, actually. And it might be working.English
25·11 days agoSo when this works for them it’ll be precedent to allow the fair use pirating of all media and software, right?
Oh never mind, I forgot that I don’t have billions of dollars to spend on lawyers. Never mind.

3·22 days agoThe first time I went to Wendy’s and it ran into that AI thing I complained to the manager, politely because I know it’s not their fault, but I just wanted to make my dislike of it known for them to tell their higher ups or whatever. She did say that you can just ask for a human. But I did make sure to be very clear that I was wasn’t just being a Karen.

Hardware@lemmy.world•Quantum teleportation demonstrated over existing fiber networks — Deutsche Telekom’s T‑Labs used commercially available Qunnect hardware for the demo, claims 90% average accuracyEnglish
1·27 days agoSee my earlier reply to someone else but the tldr is that you can only ever transport information. It needs to be interpreted and a new copy reproduced on the other side. And the original destroyed or now there’s two of you.

Technology@lemmy.world•Quantum teleportation demonstrated over existing fiber networks — Deutsche Telekom’s T‑Labs used commercially available Qunnect hardware for the demo, claims 90% average accuracyEnglish
1·27 days agoWhat do you think teleporters do? They don’t physically move your body - they dismantle it and reconstruct a copy at the destination. The middle step is the moving of information. Transportation like in Star Trek is basically magic - The Fly is more accurate., and the fact that it failed to differentiate between the two organisms is a demonstration of a horrendous flaw in the technology. Although realistically he would have come out the other side as a gooey heap, because his DNA would have also been scrambled with the DNA of every microbe on his skin, his entire gut biome, and even the his eyelash worms - look it up.
Seriously, a person is a disgusting ecosystem just filled with all kinds of crazy shit. And that’s not even accounting for the cells in you with random-ass mutations from DNA transcription errors.
The only way for it to actually work world be to analyze the location and connections of every atom in the scanning area and then send that information to a machine that rebuild the scanning area exactly the same. And if you don’t destroy the original, you didn’t transport anything - you copy it.

2·27 days agoThere’s a mutation that’s not too uncommon that prevents you from metabolizing one of the B vitamins correctly. I need to take l-methylfolate to work as basically a middle step that the body can’t do properly. The vitamin effects how you well absorb and therefore respond to antidepressant medication.
