This is my white whale. There is a guy making LineageOS versions of Android TV that seem to work well for some people but in my experience are buggy and I couldn’t get CEC working no matter what I tried.

Libreelec (kodi) works fantastic and CEC is flawless with every device I tested, but Kodi these days is really only good for local media (not Plex, Jellyfin, Youtube or streaming services) and real-debrid.

KDE Bigscreen is my last hope, but it’s probably going to be a while before it’s ready, not even including the inevitable wait for TV-interface versions of streaming apps that can run on ARM (if you’re using a raspi).

I wouldn’t do this, but a company won’t provide a service for free and I think it’s a reasonable trade-off. It’s not enabled by default, and if you do want to use their (free) AI features on your data, they get to use that data to target ads.

This will upset a lot of creators. I know they can’t just up and leave but I do wish more video creators just uploaded their content to other platforms (peertube would be nice!) the same way musicians upload to every streaming service. At least offer viewers a choice!

Your TV might have the Steam Link app meaning you could stream directly without needing the deck in the loop. If the TV is connected via Ethernet then latency would be even better.

I don’t have a good answer, I recently switched back to the Play Store. Sometimes apps you wouldn’t expect are open source and you can update via Obtanium so it doesn’t hurt to check.

I’m confused about some of these. For example everything you mentioned in the torrent agent (maintaining ratios, watching for new media, seeing what’s popular) are already settings in the *arr suite that uses significantly fewer resources, no?
