  • In political science, a reactionary or a reactionist is a person who holds political views that favor a return to the status quo ante—the previous political state of society—which the person believes possessed positive characteristics that are absent from contemporary society. As a descriptor term, reactionary derives from the ideological context of the left–right political spectrum. As an adjective, the word reactionary describes points of view and policies meant to restore a status quo ante.

As an ideology, reactionism is a tradition in right-wing politics; the reactionary stance opposes policies for the social transformation of society, whereas conservatives seek to preserve the socio-economic structure and order that exists in the present. In popular usage, reactionary refers to a strong traditionalist conservative political perspective of a person opposed to social, political, and economic change.

Reactionary ideologies can be radical in the sense of political extremism in service to re-establishing past conditions. To some writers, the term reactionary carries negative connotations—Peter King observed that it is “an unsought-for label, used as a torment rather than a badge of honor.”

  • Oh ok, only Apple and Nvidia. lol. jk

Seriously though, you’re clearly familiar with the semiconductor industry and yet you believe losing TSMC would only hurt Taiwan?

I’m likely less informed, but I’m inclined to think prices would skyrocket overnight and any innovation/R&D at competing companies would probably stall/be scrapped while companies simply try to match what TSMC is currently capable of producing. Personally, I’d immediately run out to buy the most expensive graphics card I could afford.

I mean, I know Intel likely isn’t going to compete with anyone without some extreme government funding/support - they’re currently struggling to get funding they were promised like 3 years ago.

  • Anyone aware of Trump’s actions on Huawei and how it differs from what Obama or Biden/Harris would do? I recall reading that it was something Dems wouldn’t do but something that prevented China from having a monopoly on 5G.

I’m curious if whether, considering this one specific issue, we’re in better hands under Trump since he’s maybe more likely to consider American interests in not letting the US lose market share or whatever - especially since he might be even more supportive of corporations. That said, he’s also capable oflegit letting China straightup have Taiwan, so who knows

  • One difference is there was already value with having a gmail account. What’s the point of getting a Microsoft account? The only thing I can see is it makes settings set up/transfer easy between PCs and for reinstalls.

Except, if I’m reinstalling, I can’t imagine waiting to copy settings since one of those settings is probably causing a problem and I don’t want it to be automatically set for me. I also don’t use the Microsoft store so…

Does anyone else actually get value from their Microsoft account? If not, It just feels like it’s only purpose is giving them (more) access to your computer. Why would anyone want that?
