I have some old phones laying around, they can be used for the initial setup. The PoE connection should be completely isolated. (that’s the idea)

Thanks, I’ve targeted the Reolink TrackMix P760 (white) of the one on their own site (black, but at discount). Colour doesn’t matter to much (house is green, so it’ll not match anyway), but I’ve asked around if the colour of the lower part is the only difference (looks like it’s only that, no technical difference).
Motion should be ablt to access the camera via the rsvp uri. Haven’t found any reviews when used that way. (all on YT show the proprietary software)
That was my idea as well, wall the device off, don’t let it escape it’s vlan, but allow it to answer internal traffic. I want to use motion to capture activity, preferably including animals. (WAF, she likes to see what animals visit at night)
With “stand alone” is meant a camara you can use without suplier software (at home or in the cloud).
I just want a camera that I can use with motion. (unify has local software, but still you need their software as far as I know)

7·3 years agoCome to the vi side, no straights or drags. (And just as terrible to use for every starter as emacs is ;) )
Sorry, had to have the 1st vi post. ;D

- Not watching sport, ever.
- Not in US, so don’t care.
- It’s weekend, when we listen to the radio and don’t watch TV. (Nothing on anyway)
I have a Squeezebox Classic, so I started with Logitech Media Server. It’snnow slimserver (open source), so I use that. However, it’s pretty end of live, so I’m lookingbfora replacement as well for my player. (Love the device)

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Ironically Ubuntu is more popular…English
1·3 years agoIt’s a better way, but not fool proof. I always keep root available for console login. (Saves booting from external media when there is an issue) For the rest, sudo is perfect though, but it doesn’t replace root login in 100% of the situations.
I don’t trust btrfs. Software that relies on not breaking is b0rken in my opinion. (Unless they finally fixed that)

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•If you were to suddenly come into possession of 12+ enterprise-grade SAS hard drives, how would you go about incorporating them into your homelab?English
1·3 years agoIn defence, the power prizing here is a tad different, €0.45/KWh was the prize here. Also, when those disks are given away, they are usually smaller then the current standard and less efficient. On the other hand, those enterprise grade disks generate some heat, saving on the heating bill.

491·3 years agoSell them and buy low budget low power consumption disks that would fit my purpose.
Enterprise-grade usually has enterprise-grade power consumption. From the power saving alone you can buy nice stuff.

6·3 years agoNop, I don’t have a 4k library. To be honest, my TV doesn’t even know what HD ready is. It can handle 1080i, but full HD, nop. (And I already have a hard time seeing the difference between 720p and 1080p)
I want to use Motion, as stated.
