Sad. I could never understand how it feels to be persecuted for my sexual orientation. Parts of Africa must be the one of the worst places in the world to be gay (after most Arab countries). You could literally put all gay people on Mars, but there would still be horrible arseholes who would complain the solar system is being “infested”. Why cant we all just get along? Not the economy of the 99% anyway. I worry for the future of the world with these fucking things. Countries needing money are going to allow these to be built when companies throw enough money and lobby governments. The damage they will do to the environment will be tragic. So many are going up so quickly with not a thought to how they affect the area they’re built. From what I have seen they consume massive amounts of fresh water and heat the air around them venting into the atmosphere. This is surely going to have lasting affects on the earth (if enough are built). The AI bubble is just inane, its money laundering at the grandest scale and it needs to be stopped before its too late.

As a family we rarely watch “on demand” or live TV. We have a mini hooked up to our TV and sail the seas for shows we want and watch them that way. We have a Roku stick in our bedroom TV and it works great, but if I get the feeling it starts to go all Project 2025 its getting ditched, but I’m in the UK so it’ll be interesting to see how it changes here.
The current problem with mass solar plants is that they lose a good chunk of the stored energy before it is distributed to where it goes. Obviously far better than coal, but the panels need to be at the source of where they need to go, hence why roof top solar panels on buildings are great idea. Wind power is a lot more efficient, but it isn’t like we can all plonk big windmills on our roofs.
Just when you think the geriatric generational 1% are about to pass away and leave the world to younger, more sensible, caring people who want to help the earth heal, arseholes like these guys come along just to ensure we’re all fucked for another 50 years.
I disagree. Fusion / fission is a long term goal. Solar is cheap to produce but requires big areas and currently not very efficient. Wind power i think is probably our best immediate term bet. The UK nearly went through the whole of April this year entirely on sustainable fuels alone. Within fusion there are enough countries doing their own thing with varying levels of success that there is enough competition for it to be spread world wide. It is also easily monetized, however i envision it would be expensive for the consumer first as companies claw money back from R&D.

Nuclear fusion would be an absolute game changer. Clean, infinite energy, but it is too far away for it to make a difference let alone be able to reverse the damage that is being done. For future generations sake, as a leader of a nation, I’d be throwing all my money at it. Like, yesterday.

I remember the messages from climate scientists in the 1980s about global warming (as it used to be called), and its almost as if the whole conversation didn’t rear its head properly till mid 2010s. It isn’t something I’m an expert on, but I feel like we are beyond the point of no return. In the UK we have just this week set the record high temp, a month sooner than the usual weather starts. It isn’t that its getting hotter, it is that it is now on average far hotter earlier and longer. The absolute insane greed of the stock markets around the world putting their il gotten gains into AI data centres is just going to exacerbate the problem. As it gets hotter, people buy more air conditioning which then makes it worse! Its a vicious circle.
There is part of me that hopes that the current ruling generation will soon all pass and this age of greed will cease and the earth can breath a sigh of relief, but no. It appears there are a long list of cunts who will happily sacrifice their children’s future and everybody else’s for the next few billion dollars. The 1% simply do not give a shit at all. They literally think, “Well I wont be here when the world burns, why should I care now?”

Russia needs China more than the latter need Russia. This is not a formal alliance, just an amicable partnership. I doubt Putin regrets it on a personal level.
