Add bogs to that list. Worldwide, bogs store more CO2 than forests. Restoring them and making sure they don’t dry up (which also would release a lot of gases harmful to the climate) would be a good way to capture CO2.

There really is no news story here other than a wild right-wing conspiracy theory.
There are tens of thousands candidates in this election with 17 known deaths among the candidates, 7 of which are AfD candidates. This might seem high at first glance, but since there is no central institution keeping track of this, there might be more deaths for the other parties that are just not known. Also, as others have pointed out, many AfD candidates are older men. One of the dead was 80, two others around 70.
I wish these conspiracy theories weren’t just casually echoed in headlines and social media.
I get that. It shouldn’t be necessary to do research just to be sure it’s safe. I apologise for my aggressive tone. It must be really scary and exhausting to live somewhere like that. My country is still holding up but seems to be sliding slowly in that direction too.

I’m sorry if I misgendered you. I was already exhausted from the other comments that clearly state that they are men and probably was biased in that regard. But my point still stands that there is no reason to completely forego tracking apps.
Drip, the app mentioned several times in this thread, let’s you encrypt the locally stored database with a password you have to enter every time you open the app. How is that not safer than a random piece of paper?
It’s so exhausting that this thread is full of men telling women what they should and shouldn’t do while having very little knowledge about the topic.

Sure, I used to do it on paper for many years. But it’s much more convenient to track it on my phone, which I have almost always with me. That way I can check whether I’m likely to be bleeding heavily before making plans with my friends to go swimming that day or on a long hike without access to a toilet.
Also many women don’t just track the blood flow but also other data like temperature, cervix and cervical mucus. This helps calculate the most fertile days. It’s much easier to let an app do that.

Agreed. As a white German woman myself, I can tell you that we are very used to being above any suspicion. I have been waved on in every traffic control and border check I’ve ever been in.
Also the German passport is one of the strongest in the world, we can basically go wherever we want when travelling. And now suddenly the US of all places is a country we have to be cautious in.
This is of course a very privileged position to be in, but they are teenagers, they probably haven’t had to think about that until now.

Not everyone lives in the US. If I remember correctly, here in Germany they are not allowed to routinely do these searches (doesn’t mean they can’t do them, but it’s not standard when you are arrested). I think it’s based on EU laws, so the same probably applies to Italy.
I also hate discussions with people who miss my point and argue against things I never claimed.

That’s the point, we likely wouldn’t have any new nuclear power plants in ten years, even if we started planning them now. The one they are building in the UK was started somewhere around 2017 I think and maybe, fingers crossed, it might be finished by 2029. Right now the estimated cost is around £46 billion, up from originally about £23 billion.
That’s one plant. We need many more for any relevant effect. Not even starting on the fact that nuclear energy is very inadequate for balancing out short term differences in the grid since you can’t just quickly power them up or down as needed.
Pumping all of our waste into the atmosphere is a much better solution!
I never said that. But there are ways we have to do neither. Why not concentrate on those, especially since they are magnitudes cheaper.

That might be true, but how is that helping us right now? That’s why I said it doesn’t matter how the horse died. It’s dead now. There are many faster solutions, why take the one that takes longest?
I deeply wish that people would understand that this horse is deader than dead. There is no Frankensteinian experiment and no virus that will bring it back to even a zombie-like half-life. So would you, please, please, just stop beating the poor thing.
It doesn’t matter anymore how it died, it’s really time to get a new horse.
