I’m a leather craftsman, the majority of hides used in the industry are from cattles animals destined to meat consumption. Which means that skin is a by-product of our meat usage and would be destroyed if we didn’t use it elsewhere, like making bags and all.
The only animals that are killed only for their skin are the “exotic” ones, like snakes, crocodiles, frogs, … etc. Which for me is kind of sad to see.
