  • It also helps nothing and no one to “both sides” this conversation every time it starts. Astrology and homeopathy doesn’t even begin to fucking compare with nazism. Also, why do you call out astrology but not christianity? One is a dumb little thing involving sky magic that is mostly harmless and the other is also a dumb thing involving sky magic but the followers of that dumb thing are actually very dangerous and harmful to a lot of people that have to grow up with them. Haven’t met too many female priests in my life either.

Fascism relies on traditional gender roles and that has less appeal to women who would lose rights and power compared to men who would theoretically gain power. It’s less “there’s something wrong with the men” and more that fascism itself is designed to appeal to men.

Oh, is it? So what you’re telling me is that fascism appeals to men more than women because men don’t give as much of a shit about other people’s rights? Fascinating. Totally means there’s nothing wrong with men that needs addressing or changing. Sure.

Edit: in fact this whole fucking conversation is stupid considering that the stats are there at the top of the post for all to see. There is clearly a fucking problem. And the way to fix that problem is to actually address it instead of comparing it to astrology and calling it a day.

Edit 2: the moderators here in this community are actually fucking pathetic. Actually cannot see a good reason they removed my most recent comment too now. And I’m realising that this place is actually kinda worse than Reddit in this regard because it even removes the comment from your own profile. And these fucking moderators don’t notify you or give you an actual concrete reason with whichever word or phrase broke the fucking rules. Dodgy as fuck. They’re actually just out to control the conversation.

Which is very Reddit of them. It’s easy to forget that a lot of people here are ex Reddit moderators that pissed the users there off so much that no one was willing to join them in solidarity with the API debacle. Guess I’ve found my first Lemmy community to block.

  • Even if they don’t have registries, I’m sure they could’ve done better than a four-year suspended prison sentence. I’m sure they could’ve also achieved not allowing him to work with children ever again. Unless they also don’t have things like IDs and telephones and email. I suppose if smoke signals are their only means of communication, then it’s understandable how someone caught with CSAM was allowed to keep working with children in “prestigious” hospitals that willingly hired him.

IMO, the judge that sentenced this guy to a four-year suspended prison sentence needs to be investigated and publically disgraced too. Same with the hospitals that hired him.

  • I knew this kind of shit would happen. This is why it’s important to keep an eye on US politics and why US news always kinda fits in ‘world’ news. Because like it or not, we all seem to be under the spell of the USA’s influence.

Take these European variety ass flies following the waft of stink coming from Donald Trump’s backside for example. “Make Europe Great Again”? Apparently Europe is joining China in the game of making cheap knockoffs of famous American brands. Or maybe it’s just going full circle, considering that MAGA is just a knockoff brand of Nazism. Which was long ago but not long ago enough for everyone involved in it or brainwashed by it to have shuffled off this mortal coil yet.

  • Not just anime. As a DC comics fan over the last few years, a lot of how WB does business looks pretty fucking stupid to me too. I’m willing to bet that if I visit the DC Universe website right now, it’s still going to say something like “not available in your country but keep checking back because we’re working on it!” just like it did 5+ years ago.

And they’ve been handling (HBO) Max with same sort of ‘urgency’. So we’ll get the movies on the big screen but as far as the tie in series go, maybe they’ll make it to Netflix some time after you’ve already been spoilered everywhere you look online, in the DC fan spaces you visit.

One of the funniest things was when James Gunn shared a clip of some school kids in Philippines (I think) doing the choreographed intro sequence dance for Peacemaker along with the theme song. Before Peacemaker was even legally available there.

  • My respect for Chapell Roan’s persona/politics and her showmanship caused me to listen to her stuff less judgmentally

This makes me think of another pop star that has crossed this boundary for me before - Pink. I don’t think I liked her music as much as I found myself liking this today but she definitely came across more as a rockstar doing pop than a pop star. So I had a respect for her and kinda enjoyed her songs if I ever heard them on the radio or wherever.

The vibes are probably playing a big part for Chappell Roan to as far as I’m concerned but it also helps that she’s going for that old school sound, which kinda sets her apart musically too.

Honestly I’m gonna go against what people usually say and say that Arch is better to start with than Ubuntu, as long as you’re not afraid of command line or editing txt files. Whether it’s Arch or Ubuntu, as a noob you’re going to be doing a lot of wiki reading and copying and pasting of commands.

Personally though, a big difference between the two I found is that after a couple of years of copying and pasting commands in Ubuntu, I still didn’t really understand anything about how Linux works behind the scenes. Whereas Arch had me feeling like I too could be a sysadmin, if I felt like it, within a week.

And maybe things are different these days with Ubuntu, it’s been a few years, but I find that Arch has a way more enthusiastic and helpful user base. And the Arch wiki is practically a bible. Whereas searching for problems and solutions in Ubuntu can feel a bit like searching for problems and solutions in Windows, where you’ll probably get copy pasted generic solutions or someone telling you to restart your PC.

  • LineageOS 20 on the Nokia 4.2. The only option for this phone besides LineageOS 19 and it’s one of these cases where the dev just stopped updating anything and deleted their XDA profile. Might go back to vanilla but the problem is that’s a downgrade in Android version too.

This whole phone is a regret. My previous phone had just died unexpectedly and it was a spur of the moment purchase with a low budget, based on nostalgia for a ‘Nokia’ that doesn’t actually exist anymore. Should’ve just gone for a cheap Samsung and I probably would’ve at least had more choice in custom firmwares.

  • Going to be a bit negative but this is something that’s kinda annoyed me about Android in the last few years. BREAKING: new shortcut available! And then there’s the articles and breaking news for them doing shit like changing the design of the clock slightly every now and then.

What annoys me about all of this is that the very first Android phone that I had, the S4 Mini, that started out on Android 4.3, had custom firmwares around that allowed you to customise every shortcut with anything and choose from multiple styles of clock. Amongst other things.

Which tells me that the folks working on Android could easily make things more customisable but they choose not to so that we can get these articles going on about how awesome a new shortcut is and they get to look like they’re always working on these new ‘innovations’.

They’re running out of ways to add extra cameras, so now they’re acting like adding a new shortcut to a button that should’ve been more configurable in the first place is some sort of technological breakthrough.

  • I want something between ‘feature phones’ and smartphones. A little bit like what Nokia had to offer with Symbian and Maemo but more modern. If you want a rectangle of glass that requires wireless proprietary everything and replacing every time the battery starts packing up, more power to you, I’m a fan of choice and options.

But I want to be able to buy a music phone with great speakers and toys like FM transmitters thrown in. Or a gaming phone with a d-pad, a, b, x, y and shoulder buttons. But like, with Firefox instead of Opera Mini. And social media apps and shit.
