The more impressive thing is that they managed to get the Nvidia upgrade to be backwards compatible with existing Framework 16 models.

That’s the push I need to really, truly believe they’re committed to the goal of upgradablity. Too many “modular” products have come out where the “upgraded” modules were only available if you bought the newest version of the base product.

In the next year or so, I’ll probably be buying a new laptop, and this has convinced me that Framework is probably the way to go.

If Valve were to ban porn games from being sold on Steam because they find them distasteful, I wouldn’t have a problem with this. But it wasn’t Valve’s decision. That’s a thing, but the biggest thing is that PCs as a class have been falling in numbers. As media consumption devices, they’re outmoded. Phones, tablets, and cheap smart TVs have taken their place.

A typical family of 4 might have 1 laptop for when one is actually needed, whereas a few years ago every member of a suburban household would have their own computer.

So a larger part of the market is enthusiasts and techies, who are more likely to be using Linux, and gamers, who are using devices like the Steam Deck and Legion Go that run on SteamOS.

Yeah. The narrative on the right has been changing ever since this came out. I wouldn’t be that surprised if that was the point of the whole thing.
