With the app, yes, if you enabled notifications with thumbnails. Using the app and giving cameras internet access is the issue there. Deleted data stayed longer than people expected, too.

The crappy generated URLs for camera access was eufy’s fault, but thumbnails in notifications from the app I would consider a user ignorance issue personally.

That said I do not ever recommend using any manufacturer’s app, or giving a camera internet access. Isolate it on a vlan, firewall it off, and use a local open source NVR that you’ll access directly.

Reolink, Amcrest, and Eufy (only for their newer PoE line, they have a nice multi-lens feature and on-device processing for identification).

How is everything set up? Do you have a quick diagram or anything you can share? I’d like to understand how you have proxmox with a cert but not the rest, or what you mean by your own certs - like from LE? Where is your wildcard cert coming from?

While I have finamp, I mostly use navidrome. Its there for ease of access, but TBC if I want music I use the music server.

Same content accessed by the navidrome server anyway.

My wife uses finamp, but she doesn’t download, doesn’t do complex playlists, etc. About the only time she points out an issue is when she goes through a dead zone for cell coverage here and there.

There’s only one Jellyfin instance, its just additional libraries as mentioned.

Well, kind of, I have other JF instances as lxc’s but not for that reason.

Multiple sonarr instances, multiple radarr instances, one prowlarr, one qbittorrent, etc.

You’ll need multiple instances, which is what I do for different reasons.

Conferencing hardware from lightware (upstairs) and crestron (downstairs). Not something worth bothering with though, just get a CEC adapter like the pulse eight.

You can try streamyfin which is enabled by default, but what’s likely happening is that your phone is disabling it as a background app. I’d check your phone settings for power management/pausing background apps. I can tell you that audio only playback with the screen off and as a background app works just fine with JF (official client), I was just using it that way earlier today.

Thats a client config issue not a server issue.

When companies decommission their hardware, they go to a large scale “recycler”. Most of the time that means pulling the drive on the PCs and maybe dropping another in before reselling it for less.

Some companies also recycle things like digital signage players, which could be purpose built hardware and mostly useless or purpose built software and fairly useful if you know what to check for. Or sometimes speakers, audio dsp’s, monitors, etc.

Other times when a company is being liquidated (like being sold off to pay for debts), it’ll get auctioned off. You don’t get to look at the details much (maybe one device pulled out in front of the crate the rest are in), you are buying in quantity, etc, but there can be good finds there.

I’m big on making use of perfectly good hardware with just a few years on them.

My answer is… excessive. So keep that in mind. If its just you or you and another adult, just set up kodi in some form.

I wanted something that would have profiles for my kids, a remote, and easy access. Where I am currently is:

• Flex Launcher - 10’ UI. The same person started Big Launcher after but never completed. I’m hoping to finagle Plasma Bigscreen into doing what I want, but I’m not there yet.
• Media is all Jellyfin, now with my older game emulation there as well.
• Logging into the machine also auths against JF, so its per user at the OS level for each member of the family. Currently working on NFC for login so my kids can tap a toy or something to get their account logged in, rather than me or my wife doing it.
• PC is an industrial pc I picked up, its light on usb ports but I added a wifi/bt card from another machine, bumped up the ram with some spares I had.
• I have a usb soundbar and usb audio processor, all audio goes through there, managed via pipewire.
• I couldn’t get CEC working well on it, so I made use of an overly expensive video switcher for this purpose that I picked up a while back. Corp conferencing switcher. Now I can send CEC programmatically.
• Current remote is just an older android tablet with lineage on it. I want to replace this with a keyboard/remote combo, but haven’t found what I wanted to yet. This will just get broken accidentally by a kid, so I’d prefer a remote.

The experience is pretty decent, just login and browse. In any case, this is the (overly complex) way I’ve addressed things for me. That said, a few notes / to-do items:

• No streaming platforms (I will not use them anyway)
• I still need to stand up a youtube front end (I don’t use it much so low on the list, more for my wife)
• I want to set up something to show family photos from immich as the background
• I need better controllers for gaming. I have one 8bitdo pro wired, an old 8bitdo NES controller, and a gamecube usb adapter (but my gamecube controllers have all gone to crap now, so thats useless). I also connected up the balance board from the wii, but haven’t gotten much use out of it yet.
• I want to get my AudioBookShelf on there as a dedicated setup with login by desktop account automatically, haven’t even started this yet. May have to do something a bit different here too as I want a read-along style for the kids.
• I would never buy all this stuff, I used things I picked up on the free or cheap via hardware replacements through my work and tech liquidation/“recycling” companies.

Well you can build models yourself, but definitely not the ones they are using. Those you can modify, but thats about it, as you said.

I generally don’t ever look at dashboards, only historical data, and only after an issue.

I get an alert that there is an issue, and if its an issue thats happened before, there is an automation to address (this is why I look at historical data, to determine indicators).

So I never need to look on a mobile dashboard, because the only thing I’m interested in is the notification. The only way that isn’t going to work is if I have a larger outage, but I get a notification through work for that - I have a site-to-site setup so I could attach a switch to my work network for work reasons, and if that goes down I get a notification through my work setup (and vice-versa, which was a fun morning when that side went down).

Its already pretty dark and just getting worse…

You can, I’m just saying be prepared for disappointment. The amount of effort you need to put in, imo, you could have had a spreadsheet and been done. And then used that with a script to autogenerate some mermaidml to get a purdy drawing out of it (which I highly recommend leveraging Beautiful-Mermaid ).

And then you can feed that to an llm and make your queries about ports or other uses, to me thats a much better use/approach. To each their own though.

Nope, and I wouldn’t recommend it either. They are generally not great with mapping IMO, no matter the model.

And really this is better managed with a quick diagram and a spreadsheet. If you want some software, look at netbox for this, you can add in validation rules and all kinds of automations as well.

But really, use a spreadsheet.
