Pardon my ignorance, but did they have other options during the 90s and early 2000s? Did they have big software houses that could produce their own OS or tailor Linux to what I assume was then foreign hardware, and also have the ability to interact with standard file formats like Microsoft Office documents so that they could interact with foreign companies?

(Since tone can be hard to convey in text, and comment threads often lean aggressive, I want to say that these are genuine questions, not an attempt to be snarky)

China’s tech boom is relatively recent so they had to rely on western tech in the mean time. Now they probably also have the same issues as other non US countries in that it is hard to retrain all staff to use a “new” OS and related software.

Curious, did you mention this after annexation threats? I could understand before the second Trump term as most countries assumed that the US “checks and balances” wouldn’t allow a president to just lob grenades everywhere including at the US’s own feet.

The meme of what to do with an old computer had always been upgrading the ram and storage as they were relatively inexpensive upgrades.

With this administration it is just takes a couple of bribes to enter the market.

I am also in the minority in that I like how it looks. It has a retro futuristic feel to it.

Having said that, putting aside that it became THE Nazi mobile of our time, it is stupidly big and apparently very badly made.

Like with twitter, reddit has a lot of momentum behind it. I prefer lemmy but certain communities(subreddits) just don’t exist on it.

They also don’t know what the current US adminstration will do next. As soon as the tarrifs were struck down Trump implemented new ones. And the thing is that he wasn’t even given as much as a stern talking to for implementing these illegal world affecting tarrifs. In other nations these would have been career ending.

Unless there is a Nuremberg style trial for the current administration, I don’t know how America can gain back it’s trust.

Even if Americans elect a president that is super helpful/generous to allies, there is always the chance that they elect another Trump in the following election who basically has almost free reign to do anything they want with no consequences.

I think it is way more inconvenient when you pick up a dead controller and fiddle around with long cables then taking the minuit to swap out AAs. Recharchable AAs are so much more convenient and as you said ensure the controller’s longevity. I am still rocking the original steam controller.
