Build an Unraid server out of any cheap hardware you have. Toss in any assortment of HDs you have lying around of any size. Very efficient, safe and easy to upgrade. Best computer purchase I’ve made since 2016 and I own two of them now.

Most of that is probably SD and 70 years probably doesn’t mean new original content every day for 70 years, just that the oldest item in their archive was that old.

Curious which MikroTik you had. I’ve been running them for years and absolutely rock solid. Right now a HEX-S refresh and it’s awesome and cheap.

It is complex to configure properly because it’s so powerful though. ChatGPT is great for debugging configs.

Wouldn’t get too hung up on openwrt, it was good for its day but there are far better options now.

Your best bet is to use the 3-2-1 backup system and update your backup medium periodically to stay current with technology.

There are others that are variants of this but this is pretty secure other than a world apocalypse event when you’ll have bigger concerns.

This is why I love the md array in Unraid. If I was to lose 1 data drive and 2 parity drives at once (unlikely), I’d still only lose the data on the single failed data drive, not the entire array as the data isn’t striped across all drives.

Yes it’s a bit slower but it’s my media server so still plenty fast for that.
