I’ve had no real issuses with the new notepad.
I just hope that they don’t continue adding too much stuff to it and it becomes the new wordpad and we don’t have a basic box to put text anymore.

I sure do love taking parts past the point of diminishing returns, then quadrupling the power.
Really helps when I’m sad without my Intel machine.
I love booting up servers. 95% of the boot process is spent on the ram check. 4% is spent on the actual bios things, and 1% is actually booting the OS.
Even on my home server (a desktop with 64 gigs of ram) the ram check takes longer than the OS.
The speed difference between my brand new 7200rpm 20TB HDD and a random ass sata SSD is still astounding. Sequentially the HDD is only half as slow. But booting an OS or loading files the HDD is maybe a 10th the speed. Small sequential files is where SSDs shine, especially when it comes to high end NVME drives. That’s why iops are always included in benchmarks.
Windows on an HDD takes like 1-2 minutes to boot. A sata SSD is closer to 30 seconds, and a high end NVME drive is like 10 seconds.
It was a neat concept having “the best of both worlds” the problem really was just with the scheduler. If Microsoft could fix their scheduler then it would be amazing. But it’s M$ so they won’t.
Also still having two CCDs in general is kind of an issue in windows. I’ll be sticking with the single CCD CPUs for any gaming machines.
from the article:
They argue that Musi is a ‘parasitic’ app that doesn’t compensate creators or rightsholders.
Visibility is good and equivalent to some LEDs with higher end lamps
No. Not even close. LEDs are blinding because they have such high output. That high output is what makes things visible.
AMD is on a much better process node than Intel, but their battery life still isn’t as good as Apple’s. Particularly under low to medium loads. My M1 MBP easily gets 12 hours of battery life under a real load. My AMD powered ThinkPad is closer to 7 hours, and my Intel machines get like 4, on a good day.
There’s a lot more than just two temperature sensors inside your phone. Your screen has sensors, there’s a few chassis sensors, your CPU has probably 30+ inside of it etc.
The pixels is external which is unique I guess.
Man I’m surprised Samsung didn’t dominate this list. My galaxy S4 was filled with so many garbage features that I never used.
Samsung and their garbageware was like 50% of the reason why I switched to iOS for my main phone.
The kernel is linux. From wikipedia: An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources, and provides common services for computer programs.
Linux being designed to work with so many things (and so many things designed to work with linux) all combined make the OS. This is also where the famous quote comes from. https://www.gnu.org/gnu/incorrect-quotation.en.html
Pro or Home? It looks like home is going to try to force you into a microsoft account a lot harder than pro. There are a couple of tricks to bypass it in the OOBE. But if you do sign into an MS account you can go into settings and there’s a button somewhere to switch to a local account. You’d just have to seek that out and it’s a pain.
I actually really liked both windows 8 and Vista too.
8 was slimmed down and optimized vs 7. Bootup time on my HDD equipped machine halved, performance was better, and the search was so good I never actually saw the start menu because I’d just blindly hit enter and it opened what I wanted.
Vista had a rough start because they basically had to start fresh with drivers. But I bought a nice new machine about a year after it came out and it ran it flawlessly. Aero looked (and still looks) so cool, and XP was just a crusty old OS by then, let alone 2014 when it finally lost support.
I gotta be honest, I actually really like windows 11.
Recall is awful and I hope enough pressure keeps it away (or at least as something you have to manually turn on). But besides that it’s mostly just windows 10 but better. I get better battery life, better performance, I actually mostly like the UI changes etc.
Also does nobody remember all of the hate for 10 when it first came out?
Those countries probably didn’t pay 5.5 billion dollars for TSMC to build a new facility in their country.
Multiple sources of production.
We learned during concentrating all of your production in one small country wasn’t a good idea. Plus having multiple sources has always been suggested in case anything goes wrong with one company you can still have some production.
You can also get big power consumption from turning up the voltage and cranking the clock speeds well past their efficient zone. You see that right now with most 40 series cards where turning the clock speeds down a smidge gives you huge power savings at almost no loss in performance.
Cost per MM^2 of die space has only gone up with each process node these last 10 years, so unless you’re paying big money don’t expect big chip.
I just straight up cannot do this. Either I’m spending time with family and giving them the attention they deserve. Or I’m spending time focusing on the game and the attention it needs for me to enjoy it. Multi tasking just leads to me ignoring both.
If it’s a small child and you just need to make sure they’re not killing themselves then I can do that. But besides that, to me it’s one or the other.
The 5080 is rumored to be 10% faster, but also use 90% the power. While performance has a normal generational leap, power consumption has gone up to match leaving you with a much smaller actual improvement.
There is a setting to start with a fresh window. But rereading the text kinda concerns me. Starting a new session is when the previous one is discarded?
