A laser would work better. Over vast distances, a giant mirror would eventually scatter the light, not to mention would be super inaccurate.

Speaking of inaccurate, even if we could shine a mirror or a laser, it could be millions of years until that light reaches any other civilization, then they would have to travel millions of lightyears to reach the point of origin of the “smoke signal”.

I say “point of origin” and not “Earth”, because our galaxy would have also travelled far from the spot we were in when we fired our laser. The Milky Way travels at over 2 million km/h, so even in a measly million years, that puts us over 2 trillion km from where we started. (see edit)

I’m of the mind that we are undoubtedly not alone in the universe - the sheer scale and endlessness of it tells us that there are an infinite number of possibilities. There most likely are other worlds that formed and evolved in the exact same manner as ours, maybe even under conditions so perfect as to cause them to follow the exact same path as us.

Though the unfortunate truth is, we probably will never encounter another species. There could be an infinite number of ourselves, but we are forever separated by the ever expanding breadth of space and time.

Yeah, but not as good. RealDebrid basically acts as a CDN for torrents, they’re serving you the files they’ve already downloaded directly to you.

From what I can tell, sudo flix is streaming torrents from the seeders, so you are reliant on there being enough seeders with decent upload speeds.

People normally warn against dual booting because of the headaches it can cause - you went and fucked up with triple boot.

Why do you need to cast to it? An Android TV device like the one I mentioned can just play that content.

Yes, I use subdomains.

I pay for one domain name in Cloudflare (e.g. awesomedomain.com), and have a single “A” record pointing to the public IP of my server, and a single “CNAME” record with a value of * that points to awesomedomain.com.

That way, any subdomain gets directed to the server, and then you setup Nginx Proxy Manager to listen for certain subdomains and where to proxy them. No need to manage any further DNS records in Cloudflare, and any changes made on the proxy don’t need any wait time for DNS records to propagate.

Nginx Proxy Manager also handles automatic SSL certs through Let’s Encrypt - I really can’t recommend it enough.

Sounds like you don’t have port forwarding setup.

I highly recommend setting up Nginx Proxy Manager and using it as a reverse proxy.

I have lots of services, but using a reverse proxy means I only have to expose 2 ports (80 & 443) and then I can serve whatever I want, like Plex, over https without a relay.

“Smart TVs” usually suck as the manufacturers tend to put in the cheapest internals that have very little future proofing/longevity.

You’re going to be infinitely better off getting some kind of android TV box (the ONN 4k from Walmart runs Google TV and it’s usually around $20) and just using the “Smart TV” as a display.

It’s awful to setup, and hasn’t been updated in years. Anything Wireguard, or Wireguard-based will be lightyears better.

Get any old enterprise workstation (they practically give Dells away for free) and get to know Docker.

Using multiple Pis for single applications is a fool’s errand - my Optiplex was free and it is running ~30 containers with plenty of room to breathe.

sketchy third party apps

I was replying mostly about the “sketchy” comment. The apps I mentioned are open source, and are among the most popular programs for anyone customizing Windows - maybe even top 5.

If you’re not a Windows user, then yeah, why would you personally need to know of them? Much like the average Windows user would not be able to even tell you what ls and cat are for. Doesn’t make those tools any less valid.

To be fair, you can use just a couple open source tools like ExplorerPatcher and Open-Shell to vastly improve the UX.

I’d actually say it’s easier to get a modern environment in Windows 11 as it natively has a tabbed file manager and terminal.

I say this as someone who has to use Windows, versus wanting to use Windows.
