That’s the unfortunate truth. Fortunately Microsoft ISN’T doing this. Apple and Google seems to be the ones doing most of the evil.

More reasons for the US government to break them up. Their walled garden kills innovations and competition.
Can you imagine Microsoft stops selling Win11 to the OEM and is only available on their hardware? Same for the app store. Imagine having to buy your games through their store without the ability to side load software?
How come Microsoft gets shit but Apple doesn’t. Fuck Apple.
It wasn’t recent. I think it has to be at least 5 years ago.
The noname webcam I had was awesome. Had a bright LED when you’re on a call. This was before covid, so before all the webcam innovations. I could get the camera to engage but couldn’t get the LED to turn on.
I had to end up getting a Logitech webcam.
I fix my webcam issue by reinstalling Windows.
That’s awesome. Thanks for sharing. I honestly haven’t thought about drivers either. Sounds like outside of No ads and bloatware, which is completely removed with the Tiny11 build, I don’t see an advantage. At least not worth the trouble learning it.
Legit question. Outside of FOSS and a few more frames per second on some steam games, why would anyone go through the trouble of installing and configuring a Linux box? Last time I tried I couldn’t get my Bluetooth headphones to work and I had to buy a new webcam because I didn’t know how to compile drivers.
I sorta just accept I’m running a bit slower and everything works on my TinyPC win10 box.
Google definitely has better face recognition. You can pick up a QNAP and put a Google coral and essentially do the same thing.
I also run a 3rd party software that does the tagging. But it’s annoying to do each time.
This is my setup using the 3, 2, 1 rule:
3: Raid 5 setup with 2 unused drives and setup to automatically spool up and recover if one of the drives starts failing. 2: off-site at the father in laws house (using a Xpenology super tiny PC and an external drive) 1: Monthly Backblaze
While there is risk, it’s def safer if not safer than Google drive.
I will get downvoted for this but a Synology Nas is simple and does 90% of what google will do. They also have their own DDNS or you can use whatever you like.
Downside is tou have to buy their hardware. Unless you do the Xpenology route.
Thanks for the clarification.
Not really. I think it’s considered free speech if it’s sarcastic or a parody.
Old men with credit cards have far more money than you sometimes get lonely. You’re not the demographic they are looking for. As a matter of fact, you too are benefiting from old men with credit cards.
Installed it on my Fold 5 and runs great until opening Wine internet explorer and it asks to install Gecko to render html. After downloading, it freezes and crashes.
You shouldn’t exist.
Just installed Mint to try it out because it looks similar to Windows. Don’t judge me.
