  • “I have a clear mandate.” 🤮

Shocking that the Republicans started liking him when he became more and more fascist and racist. They tell you all day long how we falsely accuse them of bigotry and racism, but they support it every last time.

Edit: I continue to love the one Lemmy maga who shows up to downvote any comment critical of the admin or Musk, but who never has the courage to disagree openly with anyone. I hope you read this, Sir, or Madam, so you can know the joy I take in finding evidence of your passing through a thread, even on my own comments.

It’s like finding sasquatch poop in the wild.

  • Man I don’t have enough time in the day to be doing that.

I save my cynical outbursts for when he gets caught. And I have reasons, though you may not agree with them.

I think it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that our government is incapable of dispensing consequences to this man, regardless of what he does, regardless of where his loyalties clearly lie, regardless of how he continually works at the destruction of the United States of America. So we’re not surprised at where things are four years from Jan 21 like we were four years from Jan 06.

While we are all tempted by the complacent comfort of “someone in government will handle it” now that he’s actually at the peak of his power, it seems key that we all remember “no one in government handled it” for four years when he was out of power and arguably at his weakest.

  • Stupid mother fuckers.

Anyone old enough to remember knows - politicians have been stupid and reactionary about public access to the internet from its earliest days.

Section 230 of the DMCA is probably the only reason social media as we know it was able to emerge past infancy. (You could argue about whether we might want to put that cat back in the bag, but the earliest discussion forums, leading to sites like Lemmy and Reddit, also could not have existed as we all knew them.)

And frankly, this looks like another part of the march to oligarchy to me. When the only social media sites that can exist are those with owners that have big enough pockets to hire enough people to become responsible for what users post and aggressively control it… (or, shudder what if the end goal is literally nationalized social media)
