I think you’re missing the key part of the problem. It isn’t the AI that’s the issue.

The problem is that he was being paid for how many listeners his AI songs got. But he used bots to “listen” to the songs. Nobody actually listened to his AI music.

The flaw in the system was that they couldn’t detect his bots. (And the bots are not AI)

But to your second point, as others have mentioned, body image issues are likely the biggest reason for the change discussed in the OP.

Weightlifting at certain young ages can be harmful. I’m not sure if that’s part of the motivation as I’m not certain what the ages are, but that’s something else to consider.

The point of assignments is to help study for your test.

To me, “assignment” is more of a project. Not rote practice. Applying knowledge to a bit of a longer term, multi-part project.

It seems like the AI tool would be helpful for things like assignments rather than tests. I think it’s intellectually dishonest to ignore the gains in some environments because it doesn’t have gains in others.

I get that some people just hate AI because it’s AI. For the people interested in nuance, I think this study is interesting. I think other studies will seek to build on it.

They don’t assume we have unlimited money, they assume they’ll make enough sales to justify making it (and paying all the people who made it).

Yeah, some companies are making ridiculous profits and underpaying staff. This isn’t some pro-capitalism comment.

Taking things off of streaming platforms or not making old stuff otherwise available usually boils down to bureaucracy and legal stuff. Certain people need to be paid, or have the right to veto their content being sold, or stuff like that sometimes. And sometimes the companies have a legal obligation to either protect their IP or ensure things stay “offline”.

I don’t like it, but I know it’s not always simple.

I believe technically-inclined people could monitor the traffic that exits the phone, or at least passes through the router.

There’s a simpler explanation – you’re in the same geospatial region or you’re connected to the same networks as the people you’re having conversations with, and those people also looked up the things they have conversations about.

If you have GPS, Wi-Fi, or (possibly) Bluetooth, then that’s how they can pretty easily associate you to those people.

One generally pays the cost of living whether they’re meeting new people or not.

I’ve got a Pixel. I don’t think it’s possible for me to set a DND that blocks presidential alerts.

EDIT: In response to the deleted comment (in case anyone else was wondering), I’m on the stock OS and I disabled the entire alert system through ADB.

In some countries, you can’t unless you connect your phone to a PC and disable the system on your phone entirely.

But googling “[phone make and model] disable amber alerts” should direct you to the settings where you can adjust things (assuming your country does it properly and respects these settings).

You actually have to opt-OUT of these alerts on almost any modern smartphone made in the past 5-6 years.

I had to “hack” my phone to disable them (using the term loosely; you need to connect it to the computer and use a terminal).

Disabled them because in my country, they abuse the system and send all alerts at the “Presidential” level (aka. top priority and everyone might die unless you do something soon). My phone manufacturer helpfully decides not to have Presidential alerts respect my volume settings (like Do-Not-Disturb).

I also live in a particularly large region.

All this combined means that I have to live without alerts that say “Tornado incoming” because I don’t want monthly alarms blaring in the middle of the night to tell me that a child is involved in a custody dispute somewhere about a 7 hour drive away from me. Guess they wanted me to keep my eyes open and call the police when I see a “white vehicle” because it may contain the “missing” child, whose entire description is “7, last seen wearing a red shirt and jeans”.

So yeah, I opted out. Against all alerts, against my will.

Also, in my country, when there was an active mass/spree shooter who was masquerading as a cop and pulling people over before shooting them, they DIDN’T use the emergency alert system. They used Twitter. Remember to like and subscribe!

That’s probably more commonly accepted. I defer to whatever my team is doing, but for my own files, I wouldn’t want things like UsStudentList or USStudentList which both look wrong to me.
