why remove them at all? its not like they are getting any real consequences for anything they do

mine has started acting up quite badly,

-from the start the internet has cut off randomly, likely due to driver issues or hardwareissue. Fixed only by complete restart. There seems to be no pattern, only that machine spirit gets angry if i use internet too much or sometimes just because i woke it up.

-Sometimes when i start the pc it takes really long time to boot and just stays in black screen,

-there are always kind of worrying error messages on startup and shutdown, something about rdseed being broken, something about data being lost, something about a thing hogging the processor and maybe switch to hq_unbound,

-sometimes the pc just refuses to shutdown when shutdown and everything else goes offline but fans keep running.

All of this has just slowly accumulated overtime, without me doing anything that should have caused it.

Yet funnily enough, i’m STILL very much more satisfied than with windows that didnt have that much immidiate issues.

you seriously underestimate how badly SO MANY people understand anything technological. Getting the pc on and logging in is probably an achievement to some. And so many seem completely incapable of learning or even being curious about how things work. They wouldnt understand to “not keep history” or even that there might be settings to the thing. And add some mental illness to the mix and you get complete disaster.

All they see is a thing that responds to what they write in intelligent seeming way and that is enough to convince them that its completely sentient, some probably doubt the people who keep telling them that its not. Maybe some even think they are being lied to when told llm isnt sentient. Even if you added some mandatory notification that tells that llm isnt sentient, some still wouldnt believe it.

llm isnt a book. its something completely new and comparing it to things like that just isnt correct. book cant adapt to the reader.

doesnt matter what the “intention” was, the point stands that this happened. You can steer the bot to say literally anything, so even if there is no grand plan to brainwash people it could still happen. Kind of same difference as having someone plant a bomb or a minefield.

In fact, if someone is prone to thinking that way, the llm would definitely support whatever delusion they have at some point, especially if the person keeps insisting.

maybe we could help handing them nails to their coffin. Lets start demanding they add even more obnoxious things. Like for reddit, make even more posts no visible to those who are not logged in, have premium members be even more exclusive and away from the view. That should be a decent blow to any new people considering to join there since why would they want to do it if they cant even see what is there. And lets say they do it anyway and maybe even pay something, they will just get shit that isnt worth their money or they are kind of people that make it even worse place.

it could be sold to the crazier users as a way for them to be oh so exclusive and vip users so they would join in too. The executives would likely be extatic to see people demand same kind of shit they would want to put in anyway.

I dont know enough about facebook or shitter to have any ideas how to make them even worse, but for sure there is room there too.

why would they? the telemetry, spying and bloatware is the whole idea for them. At least for regular users. We are the product and the data they harvest from us and ads they force on us is the point. And why would they care, majority of people just sticks with whatever was presented to them first. No matter how much bloat and spyware they add, majority will never care enough to do anything about it because it doenst directly affect them beyond slowing the computer down, which they think will be solved by buying a new one.

i think everyone is too scared of the regime to act. and even those who are not dont want to do anything because if you act alone, you will just be targeted alone and achieve nothing.

So what is needed is safety in numbers, people getting together.

Also one thing that even individual can do is help create image that others are actively doing stuff.Like, seeing graffittis that call for action creates image that at least one or more people are feeling confident enough to mildly break the law for the cause. At least that is how i would see it. I’m not sure if peacefully protesting helps or harms at this point.
