I wish someone other than Google would try having the cameras spread across the full width of the phone, so that the phone can sit steady on a flat surface. Why do they always have to be off to one side like that?

The linked article sums my position up perfectly. I’ve had a Nexus 6P, a Pixel 2XL and now a Pixel 6 Pro which, were it not for a cracked screen and (small but increasing) issues with overheating, I’d be happy to stick with.

However there’s no way I’m even considering a Pixel for my next phone - much too expensive and fuck all that AI bullshit.

Not sure what I’ll go for, and not looking forward to a phone with an OEM skin on the OS but Google has finally driven me away from the Pixel line. It’s a shame.

Just had a look, and I can’t see Lawnchair on Fdroid for some reason.

I think there are apps that you can set as an intermediary - so you set this middleman app (let’s call it ABC) as your default browser, but within that app you can set detailed rules for what links/domains open in what specific browser. Do you click your link, it tries to open in ABC, but then ABC reroutes it.

I can’t recall the names of any such apps off the top of my head, but I think they do exist.

I’ve not used it for this purpose, but the (excellent) Photo Editor has a batch edit function and removing metadata appears to be an option:

Yeah, I mean it’s not that things are outlandishly big, but the text on, for example, the BBC News app, or Sync for Lemmy are both now noticeably smaller than before and the battery, wifi and mobile data icons are noticeably larger (plus larger than the app icons at the other end of the notification bar).

Adjusting scaling to sort one issue tends to exacerbate the other.

I’ll just need to play around with it until I find a compromise. Such a pain! 😁

Pixel 6 Pro here. Glad it’s not had a widespread effect. Very annoying, but I’ll just have to adjust individual app settings to try and find a happy compromise.

Yep - and I recall arguing at the time with one of the Nova people sent to Reddit to try and sell us on the idea that everything was just fine, and nothing would change, and hey, look over there, a huge distracting thing…

It was bullshit then, and so it’s proved. What a waste of a truly exceptional launcher.

Agreed, that’s exactly what I do too - I use icon swipe all the time though, so I’m confused why you don’t have it.

I use Total Launcher - it has up and down swipe gestures but also left and right. It’s a bit of a learning curve, much less intuitive than Nova was at its peak, but very customisable.
