My biggest gripe with yaml (especially in docker-compose files) is that l, for me at least, it is absolutely not clear when I need to add dahes (-) in front of multiple entries and when it’s just linebreaks.
And there are no easy accessible docker-compose validators…
On the one running on my parents side I run raspberryOS. I do have an rpi on my side which is triggering the script and vpn (and also backs up their NAS) That one is running NixOS, but raspberryOS works fine.
Also it seems to be a good energy storage…for cases where you have irregular energy production. Create hydrogen via electrolysis using the energy surplus from wind, photovoltaic etc.
And if you need the power, you get it back via fuel cells.
I think I saw a documentary about the shetland islands, where they have (or had) a power surplus from wind farms mich grater than they where able to transfer to the main land.
I guess these are the cases which make sense…but creating another supply network to bring the hydrogen fuel everywhere might not be the way to go…
I have a remote backup setup at my parents, which consists of a rpi4 and an external hdd (old NAS HDD). The rpi also has a wireguard interface running. If I need to back stuff up (via a restic-rest container) I open the vpn from my side, start the container, mount/decrypt the hdd and trigger the restic update. Afterwards everything gets disconnected again.
The rpi needs to be always on and you need to be able to forward a port to the rpi.
The data should be secure though, as the disk is encrypted and not mounted. (You can even store the decryption key on your side of the network, so you need the vpn to be able to mount the hdd)
Thanks for the link. It seems they got it somehow working on DSM6, but if I check the thread, it’s a lot of ducttape and locktight involved especially to run with DSM7. Might try it out on a rainy sunday
Give me a package that runs on my ds214play and I’ll switch in a heartbeat
I’m running an airsonic-advanced server and use the tempo app on android https://github.com/CappielloAntonio/tempo
And supersonic on linux & windows: https://github.com/dweymouth/supersonic?tab=readme-ov-file
The point for me is, that I have an acient synology NAS (ds214play) which acts as my media server. There is a community made plex package which I can install easily. As far as I have seen, there is no way to install jellyfin on this NAS, as it doesn’t support docker
The big issue is that they don’t just “do not ask”, they also actively ignore if it if someone tells “no” upfront. E.g. in a robots.txt
If your business modell only works if you don’t follow any moral or official laws…it shouldn’t exist!
Unfortunately, capitalism doesn’t work like that…
I have a rpi4 awith an external hdd at my parents house, which I connect via a wireguard vpn, mount and decrypt the external hdd and then it triggers a restic backup to a restic-rest server as append only.
The whole thing is done via a python script
I chose the rest-server because it allows “append only”, so the data can’t be deleted easily from my side of the vpn.
But, but the corporations are telling us that they loose so much money from all those people who are pirating and therefore not ‘buying’ their stuff.
I mean the numbers they showed where huge! Hmm, maybe they forgot to carry the one or swapped some +/- diring their calculations.
I still love the trackpoint and use it almost exclusively if the notebook is not connected on the docking station.
It is just awesome if you can control the mouse while still keeping the hands on the middle of the keyboard.
It’s so much faster than to kove up and down and also more ergonomic, especially in the train when the laptop sits on my lap.
The middle button enables easy scrolling on webpages (although the vim browser extention makes it even easier ther) or documents…
Nothing else I used was able to beat this setup. And I used a lot of different devices over the tome
Interesting, for me the apps required to have a valid tls cert.
Yes the fines are not high enough. IMHO there should be two payments: a return of all earnings which are related to the violation PLUS a hefty fine and/or jail for the executives
That’s the only way it isn’t cost efficient for the big companies to ignore the laws. Also, make sure the fines are actually paid in full and in a reasonable amount of time
I really like the idea, Im currently struggling with the implementation. There are so many issues to cover:
There are so many loopholes which corps will use to get out of it :-(
Probably something to do with the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) based on that you can calculate how long your stuff lasts and how you should schedule repairs, or in that case, how long you can provide warranty. I’d be intetested in the numbers for the jump from 8 -> 15, too
Just a heads up about switzerland:
That actually makes sense…thank you!
