1·2 days agoI’m interested in the bubbles thing. I can’t figure out of it’s true floating windows support on foldables or just for chats like Facebook Messenger does though.

Loading prepaid debit cards at gas stations sounds like a rough life. I’d like to think that I’d have more conviction for privacy if it came to that, but everyone has their line I guess.

21·4 days agoDo you know if it works well with GrapheneOS?
I was using Traccar and that worked well until moving to GOS and then background updates wouldn’t work.
I tried owntrack and nextcloud but never got it to work.

3·13 days agoI haven’t heard of Zen and just checked out the wiki on it.
There are so many browsers! It’s hard to decide. I’ve tried quite a few over the years. Been running Brave as primary for 3-4 years.
I appreciate the Reddit link. Yikes. I’ve noticed the enshittification of Brave but didn’t know all the bad stuff they’ve done.
I do like that Brave works well on all my devices and sync is reliable. I don’t like running different browsers on diff platforms.
Time to do some testing and research…

8·13 days agoIt’s so hard to find good things as it is. Adding in politics of devs adds yet another layer to it!
I recently started using FUTO keyboard and then learned someone they associate with is a bad dude.
It’s like, come on guys. I’m trying to degoogle, avoid enshittification, and be privacy and security aware… and then there’s this curveball that I have to factor in too.

I tried LibreWolf and had issues that I can’t remember now.

But also I’m out of the loop on why ppl hate Brave. Can someone clue me in?
Is there a better cross-platform browser? I like to use the same one across devices.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What do you use for selfhosting cloud storage?English
4·30 days agoPeople love syncthing but I spent about 20-30 min on setup and found it confusing once I got beyond 2 devices. There are a couple comments in this thread between me and someone else about different setup options with syncthing.
I have been relatively happy with folder sync pro and nextcloud though. It’s worth noting that changes only instantly push when they’re made on Android first. If you edit/add/remove a file that’s in a synced folder from a computer, then folder sync pro on Android will simply use the sync interval that you set (I have mine at 15 min and have seen no battery hit, can set it down to 5 min). You can also just manually hit the sync button in FSP. But that was just one element that I was troubleshooting and thought sync was broken, but nope, that’s just how it works depending on what device did the edit/add/remove.

1·1 month agoHow do you set up syncthing with a host/client configuration?
I planned on setting it up with 5 devices but as soon as I got to 3 devices I started having issues and didn’t like the structure conceptually of “everything syncs to each other” vs having a “source of truth” with 2-way sync.
TBF my issues with syncthing were probably user error but still frustrated me enough that I bailed.

Fair enough. But I wasn’t picturing them simultaneously doing it.
