Is there no git hosting service left that isn’t pushing censorship and fascism? I think I should just start self-hosting at this point.
Then go make one to suit your needs. You can even base it on the blockchain as all those want ads I’ve seen seem to want people to do.
no they didn’t. it’s right there in the thread; they reserve the right to remove any project that “damages the reputation of codeberg”, with crypto scams listed as an example.
Thank you for providing context for folks :)
The banner at the top of their site tells a different story

Cryptocurrency projects are no longer allowed. View change

exhibit b, the post in question:

Edit:
and just for good measure, the actual text of the ToS, with the change highlighted:
You must not share any content that’s expressing hate or encouraging violence towards a person or group for any reason. We also explicitly do not tolerate:
- Discriminatory behaviour towards and promoting oppression, especially of marginalized groups on grounds of ethnicity, gender, disability, nationality, education, age, and religion.
- Violent nationalist propaganda, Nazi symbolism or promoting the ideology of National Socialism.
- Mobbing, stalking, doxxing (exposing someone’s personal information), brigading (inciting a group to spam a specific place for any reason), threatening and harassment, as well as encouraging others to do those things.
- Insults, discriminatory jokes, sexualized comments and other unwanted sexual attention.
- Sexually obscene content, including content involving the exploitation or sexualization of minors.
- Content that’s glorifying violence; that includes any violent material without a proper content warning.
- Content that harms the reputation of Codeberg, such as cryptocurrency related projects.
Banning cryptocurrency is pushing fascism now??? What are you talking about?
Cryptobros are a bunch of whiners.
Good
Cryptocurrency is a market speculation scam.

Is it really “censorship” if they openly state which shit they don’t want to have near their platform? If I opened any kind of platform myself, these two would be right behind “illegal activities” and “hate speech”. And I’d be proud to place them there.
If you have issues with not being able to put LLM shit or crypto “currency” scams anywhere, then you should look into selfhosting.
I did in fact switch to self hosting. Also, how would you define “illegal activities.”? The internet is a decentralized, world-wide platform. Which State’s jurisdiction would you like to fall under? If that State has laws that you don’t agree with?
There are some common ground rules what people consider illegal. You cannot cover every countries’ rules, of course, but blatant copyright violations, CSAM distribution, doxxing data is something most people can agree on.
And the jurisdiction of the location of the server is an important point, too.
Selfhosting has more reasons than “just” evading rules one does not like.
