Now they want to start building one of the most expensive industries in the world right now? And they are putting in a measley 2.5B USD? A typical fab starts at 1B, and that’s ignoring the start up costs for getting people and a place to research a technology that they gave up in the 70s because they were hopelessly incapable due to the Russian culture of tyrannical authoritarianism and lack of quality. If they start now, they can make chips like it’s 1990 in a decade. It’s a waste of time and money, neither of which they have much to squander.
