Good news, and I’m glad. Still a shame it required all the PR hassle first.

Wasn’t a problem on F-Droid, but at least the non-tech-savvy folks who consider or use Nextcloud via Play Store may not be disappointed.

So they needed to be an app with millions of users and enough influence so their blog post will get viral enough for a human being to look at the issue and fix it. After a year or something like that, cool.

The main Syncthing app for android has stopped development because of shit like this.

You just cant build actually useful apps that use low level access anymore without google kicking you out of the play store. But its becoming a OS level problem too. Lots of things are just not possible anymore without rooting. If someone doesnt hard fork the AOSP at some point soon, the future will look very grim even for custom roms because reversing all the damage google is causing is way too much work for a couple of volunteer devs.

Syncthing never had an official Android app, and the current iteration, Syncthing-Fork, is updated quite frequently.

I try to stay away from the play store at this point. Even Tasker is sourced from the dev himself (license is like $4, absolutely worth it), and is more capable than the play store version.

I hope there is some pressure to cut this monopolistic bullshit. The permission system is there, no need for an extra watchdog.
