As BlissOS is on halt and mostly silent from what I could find and Android-x86 is a legacy system at this point, I was looking for alternatives.
Spotted a few on alternativeto, but unfamiliar with either: FydeOS, PrimeOS, OpenThos, Maru, and so on.
Now, are any of them good as alternatives for vanilla desktop Android?
And although vanilla would imply this (least I would imagine), asking just to be sure, are any of them concerning/problematic when it comes to privacy?
And lastly, any other miscellaneous points I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance!
Edit:
This is awkward…
Just noticed that OpenThos is discontinued, Maru hasn’t had updates since 2019, and PrimeOS’s site is offline, leaving only FydeOS, I guess?
Still, keeping the questions for FydeOS, and I add:
Any alternatives I missed?
FydeOS is ChromeOS based, not android - in that area there’s brunch as well, which is closer to what’s officially distributed. I believe you are correct to assume that x86 android that you can just install on your own is not really a thing anymore.
I see, what I shame =/
Thanks though
It might not be exactly what you’re after, but there’s always Waydroid. I have a script to use it if you’re still on X11 too.
Sadly not what I’m looking for. I’m looking specifically for the system as a whole being Android, not a system running inside another.
What is the end goal?
To have an alternative for BlissOS.
What are you using Bliss OS for?
Android stuff on PC
BlissOS had a blog post ~2 months ago: https://blog.blissos.org/bliss-updates-2508/
WayDroid and BlissRoms git repos seem very active.
Hopefully BlissOS will return.
Ah, hadn’t came across it. Thanks!
And about the post itself, first paragraph is a bit concerning. Wonder if we will be able to uninstall the official spyware. But at least they are transparent it will be there and put it right in the beginning of the text.
Yeah the whole sequence seems a little weird. That said, I couldn’t find another strong option the last time I looked for an alternative.
