Next you’ll tell me that cat’s aren’t white meat either…
Just checked and you are right. I’m so used to hearing “Pork, the other white meat” that I mis-understood.
Except that salami is typically made of pork, which isn’t a red meat. Most cured meats and sausages are pork based.
The Feeling of Power might be close enough. It’s an Isaac Asimov short story from 1958. Basic plot is that people have become so reliant on computers, they can’t do basic math or counting. It’s about what happens with mental decline with making machines do all the thinking. (There is more, and the link explains the story but I feel that I shouldn’t include spoilers, even for a 50+ year old story.
If you want, you can read the scans of the original here.
Also, Dad’s Nuke touched on this kind of subject with people having get together and they have to make their own food and come with things like Jalapeno Pie/Cake(?) and other interesting dishes which indicates that people are already losing the ability to do basic cooking.
People still use Google all the time to help them get specific software to work with their device. There are tons of wiki’s, forums, reddits, lemmy instances, discords, etc… that are full of people asking for how to get specific software to work on Windows/etc… People still sit and read documentation all the time.
More than half of PC handhelds sold are Steam Deck.

People aren’t flock to Windows alternatives.
Create your own 2nd/3rd account, and use the same emails but with the + option. https://www.streak.com/post/gmail-plus-addressing-trick (This works with more than just Gmail) So your main account is main@whatever.com, then your second account would be main+1stKid@whatever.com. This way you don’t have many different emails to manage, but Steam (last I checked) will see these all as different so everything can be managed by you.
DOGE already defunded that government department.
I’m curious what CPU was in it, as there aren’t any CPUs listed from 2019 that aren’t supported.
Things have changed since then. Steam not only has a Linux client, but also has Proton which loads most Windows apps (it’s marketed for games, but in reality it will work on Windows apps).
Most games that don’t have kernel level anti-cheat tend to work.
Have you tried to play the games or did you look them up on a site? I’ve found that unless you are looking at a popular new game, a lot of the games listed are saying that they don’t play, but we’re last checked in 2023, and they do work now but no body has updated the new results.
Congratulations on the downgrade. You’ve gone from an OS that will support your hardware from at least 10 years, to maybe 7 years of support.
On a serious note, what can’t you do with your Pixel? The only issues I’ve had is I can’t access networking functions. Beyond that, not much limits in most things I do. And with Android 16 allowing for installing Linux apps (not just terminal ones, but full graphical ones like VS Code, Blender 3D, etc), there is little I can’t see it not being able to do. (No Wireshark though, but that’s networking, the only painful point for me).
so my question here would be: does this mean linux now is ready for the education sector?
No, not for elementary/HS. You have to understand that schools aren’t regular users. They will have 2 top priorities:
Until these two issues are solved, Linux won’t be ready for the public education sector. (When the parent issues the device, all rules are gone since it’s up to the parent what limits to place, and all the school will say is that the device must be able to run programs X, Y, and Z.)
From the article: “In October, students at Assumption University in Massachusetts allegedly lured a 22-year-old man to campus, called him a predator and chased and attacked him when he tried to escape, according to a police report. After reviewing the man’s Tinder messages, officers said the man had thought he was meeting an 18-year-old student, not a 17-year-old, as the students had alleged.”
Thats how. You lie.
Possibly the fact many customers don’t want it. According to three Apple CarPlay site:
With digital car keys and the already seamless experience of Apple CarPlay, there are more ways than ever to take your iPhone on the road. With car keys, you can unlock and start your car with iPhone. And CarPlay gives you the ability to safely use what you love about your iPhone while you drive.
I don’t have an iPhone, so from all the marketing blurbs, it’s pretty much saying “Spend a ton of extra money for something you can never use.” I’ll pass on spending $1000+ on that useless"upgrade". And since Apple is notorious about locking iThings to Apple only hardware (or just not having full functionality when they do allow it), I doubt I’m alone in this thought.
It’s “sudo yum”.
So you went from a 10 year upgrade cycle to a 7 year upgrade cycle?
So, what your saying here is that the A in AI actually stands for artificial, and it’s not really intelligent and reasoning.
Huh.
