I have had closee friends get very mad at me for making this point.

Gelsinger was hired as a known long time engineer, rather than as a business expert. I would trust his numbers from an engineering perspective, even though I was laid off under his rule

WSL is pretty good these days. Dual boot with Windows is still a pretty risky move with how easily Windows will overwrite your boot loader. I usually recommend you pick one os or the other rather than dual boot, so I’m in favor of WSL or virtualbox. Personally, I have never cared for needing to reboot just to switch operating systems. I tend to stick with one and the second one does nothing but take up disk partition space.

WSL lets you run both simultaneously without rebooting. Virtualbox lets you do the same with extra setup. Virtualbox makes it easier to do GUI setups than WSL does, and the network configuration is a little more obvious.

The best option is to get a second machine so you can run both. If that’s not an option, virtualbox is the better choice for learning. If you just want a Linux environment on your existing setup (similar to using a Mac) then WSL is usually good enough

I remember that marketing campaign. Windows Vista had a shaky launch, because the hardware manufacturers hadn’t polished the Vista-compatible drivers yet. 6 months later, they had caught up, but people still had a bad taste from it.

So when service pack 1 came out, Microsoft made a reskinned version of it and started an ad campaign with “customers” claiming “Windows 7 was my idea!” and the public ate it up.

While Calvin in a Crowder meme is better than Crowder in a Crowder meme, maybe we just don’t use a Crowder meme at all?

I’m fond of Go, which comes with its own auto formatter. It eliminates all arguments over style and format.

WSL has replaced my use of the command prompt in Windows for anything (and I used it more than most, I think).

In my job, I develop Linux applications to support industrial automation, and WSL is capable of building and running most of what I make. It isn’t a full Linux machine, and can behave unexpectedly when trying to do things like changing certain network configurations.

So it’s great for what it’s for, really. But if you want a full VM, this isn’t really for that.

This is one of the things I like most about Go. Formatting is already defined and handled by go fmt. Takes out all format arguments before they start.

Sometimes it’s intentional. I have seen both of these cases as well:

• If you copy text, the page secretly adds more text at the end saying "To read more, visit " so when you paste the text, it shares the article too.
• Some pages seem to interfere with selecting text on purpose. Like once again, they don’t want you copying text, they want you to link the whole article.

Gotta get more impressions, right?

I guess the main things would be:

• As a beginner, don’t bother trying to dual boot – If you still need a Windows box, get some cheap hardware to do your Linux work on. It’s too easy to screw up both systems otherwise.
• Don’t get too hung up on a specific distro, the better you are at dealing with different configurations, the better prepared you will be for whatever comes. Once you’ve gotten one set up, don’t be afraid to just try a different one.

Yeah it definitely looks like a flawed implementation either way. Probably a student got bored of trying to make it work, and went nuts with the #defines for fun

As a career programmer myself… I can absolutely relate.

I believe it outputs the prime factors of the number you gave it.

We like Alpine because it doesn’t run afoul of our outbound software license to distribute container images with it.

Of course most folks aren’t distributing full container images with their licensed software, so this niche probably doesn’t apply to most people.
